Notable Achievements

Famine Early Warning System (FEWSNET): Dr. Nancy Mock co-designed this innovative initiative aimed at early detection and monitoring of famine conditions, enhancing proactive responses to food insecurity. 

Standardized Monitoring and Assessment of Relief and Transitions (SMART): Dr. Mock played a pivotal role in developing this framework, which standardizes methodologies for assessing humanitarian interventions, ensuring consistency and reliability in data collection. 

Disaster Resilience Leadership Academy: As a co-founder and inaugural co-director, Dr. Mock established this academy at Tulane University to cultivate leadership in disaster resilience, focusing on equipping professionals with the skills to manage and mitigate disaster impacts effectively. 

NASA-Funded Research on Environmental Justice: Dr. Nathan Morrow is currently leading a project that leverages open science to advance environmental justice in the Gulf South, utilizing geospatial tools to address policy-relevant environmental challenges.

Award-Winning Research on Mobile Vulnerability Analysis and Mapping (mVAM): Dr. Mock and Dr. Morrow contributed to the development of mVAM, a project utilizing mobile technologies to collect food security data remotely. Their work was recognized with a “Best Paper” award at the Humanitarian Technology 2016 Conference.
